It's a Trap-eze!

I absolutely love this polish from China Glaze! I am a huge sucker for any white polish with colorful glitters. I own quite a few!
When I saw this polish from the cirque du soleil line, I had to have it!!

Here's what I did:
1 coat Nail Magic
1 coat Gelous
1 coat NYC French White Tip
2 coats China Glaze It's a Trap-eze
1 coat Seche Vite

I added a fimo star to my ring finger nails. I absolutely love how this turned out!

red Red RED

Good afternoon!! I wanted something sexy/fancy to wear, so I opted for a red and black french manicure. You honestly can not go wrong with any color of french manicure. I think I succeeded in creating a very versatile manicure.

What I did:
1 coat Nail Magic (Still working its magic!)
1 coat Gelous
2 coats Wet n Wild I Red a Good Book

I free handed the black tips using a Kiss Striping Polish, obviously, in black.
Then I placed Holo nail tape below the black lines.

Because I free handed the tips, they aren't perfect...but hey, I think they look pretty awesome. I love the tape I added! I think it really makes this manicure uber fancy!

As always, the Wet n Wild polish was a bit of a pain in my behind. The brush is ridiculous. I've said in other posts how much I really like the POLISH, just not the brush.

I really think this is an easily obtainable look. If you aren't comfortable free handing the tips, use tape! Or use the little stickers they make specifically for creating a french manicure look! I found my nail tape HERE! Amazon is my go to place for nail art supplies. I am addicted to Amazon...it isn't healthy.

Painting the roses REEEED

Good evening! I have a pretty cool manicure to share with you. I went onto Youtube and found a rose tutorial. You can find the video I used as a reference HERE! This gal on Youtube has some AWESOME tutorials, go check her out!

So here's my version:

Here's what I did:
1 coat Nail Magic
1 coat Gelous
2 coats Orly's Decades of Dysfunction

Then I followed the tutorial by taking a large dotting tool with Wet n Wild's Candy-licious and placing the dots for the roses. Then, using a small detail paint brush, I tool Wet n Wild's I Red A Good Book and painted the "leaves" or detail of the roses. Using the same brush, I used China Glaze's Agro for the leaves.

I topped it all off with a thick coat of Seche Vite.

I am really proud of myself, to be honest. I don't do a lot of hand painted nail art, and I'd like to say with this being my first try, I did a pretty darn good job!

Orly's Decades of Dysfunction will be one of my new favorite polishes of all time. It is AWESOME. Application was a breeze, the soft pinkish/white/off whiteish color is gorgeous. I picked this bottle up at Sally's Beauty Supply on the clearance rack! What an awesome find!!!

Lava Lamp Nails

Goooood morning!!

There has been a trend on Instagram that I knew I had to try. There isn't a definite name to them, but I like to call them Lava Lamp Nails.

I must admit, these were harder than I thought they'd be. But since I've done them once, I am positive I can improve my skills on them. In concept, they seem very easy.

So here's what I did.

1 coat Nail Magic
1 coat Gelous
2 coats NYC French White Tip
I painted half of my nail with Pure Ice Black Rage
Then I took a medium sized dotting tool, and placed the dots along side the diagonal line I created. Then placed the opposite color  dots on each side of the line.
I topped it all off with Seche Vite.

These nails really look so cool on. I feel like they're melting into each other. It's beautiful. I, being my worst critic, see some flaws, but practice makes perfect, so I will for sure be doing these again. I'm glad I did the mixture of black and white for my first time with these. I think it really shows the dramatic dripping to the work. I love it.

Essie Braided Manicure

Good evening all. I hope you all are enjoying your Wednesday night. I have a really fun manicure in store for you, and a pretty in depth review of the new Essie Mirror Metallic line.

As I'm sure all of you know, Essie came out with the Fall 2012 Mirror Metallic line. I was so excited about this line, I literally went out and bought each and every single one of them. I couldn't wait to try them!

The line is made up of five different colored polishes. There is:

• Nothing Else Metals - A light pink metallic color
• No Place Like Chrome - A very metallic silver
• Blue Rhapsody - A stunning blue metallic
• Penny Talk - Copper colored metallic
• Good as Gold - A gold metallic 

I paid $8.00 a bottle for each one. (Totaling out at  $40 without tax...sheesh) I found all of them at my local Walgreens. I am happy/upset that I purchased these. But first, I will show off the manicure I created using Nothing Else Metals, No Place Like Chrome and Blue Rhapsody.

First off, these were nearly impossible to photograph...so I'm sorry if you can not see the detail very well.

Here's what I did:

1 coat Nail Magic

1 coat Gelous

1 coat Nothing Else Metals

Then I used the combination of Nothing Else Metals, Blue Rhapsody, and No Place Like Chrome to create the braided effect.

I topped this all off with Seche Vite.

Ok, these polishes are a PAIN to apply. The application is horrendous. You have to be pretty quick, or else you see beginning to dry brush strokes. If you want to add more on top of the starting to dry polish, forget about it. It creates bald spots. 

These polishes are also NOT forgiving at all. They will show every single flaw about your nails and your painting skills. 

I had to wait for my coat of Nothing Else Metals to COMPLETELY dry before starting on the braided look. I found out waiting for it to dry to add on top is the way to go the hard way. 

After it was dry, I started on the braiding effect. I started on my ring finger, not sure if I wanted just an accent nail, or to do all of them. As you can see from my photos, I had to LEARN how to apply this polish in the braiding manner before getting it right. It is a PRO that this polish dries quickly, but it can also cause your designs to look like poo. I started getting bald spots, the polish started creating poc marks on the areas where the polish overlapped. So my ring finger looks pretty bad.

After learning what to do, it was smoother sailing after that. The trick is to blow on the polish while you are applying your strokes. Then I waited a few seconds before adding another color. 

Now, on to the chore that is the clean up. THESE POLISHES ARE A POLISH ADDICT'S NIGHTMARE! As I was trying to clean up my horrible painting job (Due to having to RUSH RUSH RUSH to get smooth lines), it left this awful silver dust residue. It was SOOO hard to remove. Not that the polish is ACTUALLY hard to remove...it's just that I had to practically scrub my cuticles and skin with acetone to remove the SUPER shiny silver residue. If you look closely at my photos...my skin has a silvery "glow" to it...that isn't good genes or good skin...it's the polish that wouldn't come off. After sleeping/washing my hands/showering, the residue did disappear, but it will take you forever if you rely just on a brush and acetone.



As for the braiding technique...I loved doing it. It was easy peasy, and it turned out sooo stunning. Because this manicure was so subtle, I did opt to do all of my fingers. I got a lot of compliments. And even though the nail polish is a HUGE hassle, the end result was extremely beautiful.

All in all, I DO like this manicure. I DO like the end result of the polish. I DO like the colors of these polishes. I just dislike the application and clean up. I don't know if I will be using these polishes again for a little while...only because I just don't want to do that much work for a simple manicure.

Birthday Dots

Hello all!!! Yesterday (Aug 6th) was my 26th birthday! Naturally I had to have some pretty spiffy nails when I went to enroll my eldest into Pre-K. (That is literally all I did for my birthday...getting old stinks.)

Summer is almost over, and I really wanted to take advantage of my bright colors before they look weird in the colder months.

Here's what I did:
1 coat Nail Magic
1 coat Growth Spurt
1 coat Gelous
2 coats Julep Alicia
And I used a small dotter to make my polka dots with Hard Candy Frenzy, Wet N Wild I Need a Refresh-mint, and Konad Special White.
 1 coat Seche Vite

I love love love this manicure. I formed a circular pattern off to the side of my nail, rather than in the middle of my nail. I think it made it look a bit more abstract. I love the color combination, and  Julep Alicia will always be one of my favorite polishes. I adore it.

Application was beautiful, and drying time wasn't that bad. It did take me like an hour to do each and every nail...but let me just say: I was 100% worth it!

As you can see, my nails are crazy short. I had them growing so nicely, then they all broke. It really stinks to have short nails, but I have faith that they will be coming back stronger and hopefully will stay longer. One of my Instagram friends suggested Nail Magic...so we shall see how well it works. This is week one for me. It says it takes up to 8 weeks for stronger nails to come in...so I am testing them!

I have been trying to get good use out of my dotting tools lately. I forget how much I really love polka dots. I must remember this!!

What do you all think of this manicure? Is it too busy? What color scheme would you do?

Also, I would love to hear from you guys about Nail Magic. Have any of you used it before? Did it work for you? I would really like some input on this base coat!!

Party Rockin

Good morning all!!!

Today I have a gorgeous manicure to share with you all! I used an unnamed Hot Topic polish and Lush Lacquer's Party Rockin. I love love love the colors in Lush Lacquer's glitter polish!

Here's what I did:
1 coat Seche Retain
1 coat Gelous
2 coats Hot Topic polish
1 coat Party Rockin
1 coat Seche Vite

The Hot Topic polish was a bit of a pain to work with. The consistency is great, but while applying it, it creates bald spots on itself. So I sort of had to goop it on. Other than that, I really do like this polish. It is a nice dark purple with lots of shimmer that changes from purple to blue. It really is gorgeous. I'm in love with the bottle too. I love me some skulls.

Lush Lacquer is one of my favorite indie polish companies. I love all their polish, and I have never had a single problem with them! The shipping to get to you does take a little while, but trust me, it is WORTH the wait!!! They retail at $8.75 a 15ml bottle. Which is very reasonable, considering the quality you are getting! The polish always glides on like butter. I never have to fish for any glitters, nor do I ever have clumping problems with the glitter. I never have to adjust the glitter on the nail! All I do is paint and go. Seriously.

Party Rockin is a gorgeous polish that is LOADED with glitter. There are smaller glitters, medium sized hex glitters, and bar glitters. The color combination is to die for. It is bright and summery. I decided to pair it with purple to really bring out the blues, oranges, and yellow/golds. I know this polish would look amazing on blacks, pinks, and greens! I can't wait to try this glitter with other colors! I also can't wait to try a jelly sandwich!

Ringer

Gooood morning!!! This morning I have an indie polish to share with you.

I have heard a lot of hype around Max Factor's Fantasy Fire and Darling Diva Polish's Ringer. So I bought Ringer, the cheaper of the two. (Fantasy Fire comes in a tiny bottle, and I was not about to pay $16.00 for a mini bottle of polish!) You can find Darling Diva Polish's Etsy shop HERE!

So here's what I did:
1 coat Orly's Tough Cookie base coat
2 coats Orly's Fowl Play
1 coat DDP Ringer
1 coat Seche Vite

Now, I am not going to lie, I was not in love with Ringer at first. I had placed it over a blue, and I didn't see what all the hype was about. Yeah, the glitter is really glittery and the duo chrome red to greenish gold is really pretty. But I didn't know why it was so coveted.

So I decided to place it over a darker color. And Fowl Play was in my untried pile, so I said, why not?

Fowl Play by itself is gorgeous. It has redish glitter in with the purple yummy creme. I absolutely love this polish. The formula was amazing. It was completely opaque in two coats. I love the color, I loved the brush, I love everything. I am SO glad I purchased Fowl Play.

When I placed Ringer over Fowl Play, it really brought Fowl Play to life!! I know what you all are saying "But Christina! Fowl Play by itself has so much to it, and is SOOOO beautiful on it's own!!" I agree. But something about adding Ringer to the mix made it come ALIVE.

It sparkled so much in the sun. And I honestly don't know if I can ever wear Fowl Play without my trusty Ringer.

Now, the application of Ringer was one of the best I've seen since Hungry Asian's Sneeze Breeze and Sea Creature! It was sooo easy to apply. And one coat gave enough glitter goodness that I didn't feel the need to do two. I will for sure be using this polish sparingly, since DDP is currently out of stock!

All in all, another great manicure, another great purchase, and a happy momma on this end! I couldn't stop staring at my nails, and I didn't want to take it off! It is so gorgeous!! I think I will be trying Ringer by itself soon. It'll take about 4 coats to build it up, since it is so sheer. It is really like a jelly...a yummy, sparkly, glittery, duochrome jelly. YUM.

I also have a little bit of news to report. I am currently doing a NO BUY challenge. I have been spending WAY too much on nail polish, and I have gone from only a few (maybe 10 polishes) to almost 160 since I started this blog a month ago. That is BAD. So I have promised myself that I will not be making any more polish purchases until July 17th 2012. It is going to be SO hard. But I know I can do it.

But I can accept gifts. ;)

Instant Chemistry

Good afternoon! I have my first magnetic manicure to share with you all.

I never thought to purchase magnetic polishes, even though I thought they were gorgeous. I honestly think they're overpriced. But with my recent splurge, I decided, why not? And picked up China Glaze's Instant Chemistry.

I have a pretty yucky boo boo on my finger, hence the black blob in all my photos.

I really do like this polish, but I know it'll be a polish I will have to practice at. I purchased the magnet that goes with this line, which I assume can go with any magnetic polish, but please correct me if I am wrong. I spent a whopping $10.00 just for the stinkin magnet. Which I personally think is a rip off. China Glaze should offer the magnet for free, since you're already paying $10.00 for the polish. But I guess I won't ever have to buy another, which I suppose is good. It comes with three different designs on the little plastic magnet holder, and has little "lips" on the ends where you rest your finger to avoid actually touching the magnet with your wet polish.

I had a hard time with this polish, because no matter what I did, I touched the polish to the magnet. I had to redo a few nails. Which wasn't too huge of a problem, because the clean up and removal of this polish is CAKE!

(I also had to file down all my nails because of my broken middle finger. Boo.)

You have to use this polish really really fast. So I did it one finger at a time. Once it dries, you cannot use the magnet on it. And if you are too shaky, or shift the magnet any way, it will alter the design...I found that out the hard way.

Here's what I did:
1 coat Orly's Tough Cookie base coat
1 coat China Glaze Instant Chemistry
1 coat Seche Vite

I have seen other people do two coats of magnetic polish before actually applying the design. But I don't want to waste this $10.00 polish, so one thick coat was fine for me. I will say, this polish dries CRAZY fast. I had to work so quickly. But it was nice, because I didn't have to worry about bumping my nails, or creating ugly dents. :)

You can tell in this photo that I had a rough time with the pattern on my ring finger. But in real life, you couldn't really tell. I love love love the awesomeness of the magnetic polish. I've seen dozens of photos and videos of this type of polish, but it truly is much more amazing in person.

I will for sure be saving my pennies for more magnetic polishes. But I would like to try other brands too. What brands should I try? Are they as expensive as China Glaze? What do you think of China Glaze's magnetic polishes?

Oh! I also would like to mention that I am two readers away from 25 followers!!! WOO HOOO!!! Once I hit 25, I'm gonna give a few polishes away. Nothing too big..as I can't afford giant giveaways. But a little thank you to all you faithful readers! :D

Number One Nemesis

Good afternoon! I don't think I told you all, but for Mother's Day, my little ones got me the mini bottles of OPI's Spiderman collection. It came with four bottles of polish. And I plan on swatching each and every single one on here. I love love love them! It included: Number One Nemesis, Your Web or Mine?, Into the Night, and Just Spotted the Lizard.

Today I am showing you Number One Nemesis. This is the polish I've been wanting for a little while. Ever since these came out. Every time I see it on someone's blog, I drool every single time. And now I know first hand why.

Please excuse my broken middle finger, and my boo boo on my ring finger. I've had a rough week. And my hands were the victims. :(

Here I used:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Pure Ice Black Rage
2 coats OPI Number One Nemesis
Stamped the image with Konad Special Polish in black with plate BM-208
1 coat Seche Vite

I love love love the pattern. It makes it look almost like a crackle...but it obviously isn't. My daughter, Seyhan, said it looked like spider webs. How perfect!!! :)

The application was beautiful with Number One Nemesis! (As with a huge majority of OPI polish!) I actually love OPI brushes. They're thicker than Essie's brushes, and I enjoy that. I feel like I use less polish with them...but it could be all in my head. I couldn't get any sun shots with this manicure, mainly because I've been crazy busy. So these photos were taken inside, at night, with my flash. But in the sun, this polish sparkles like crazy! It is truly gorgeous.

I seriously recommend that this polish be in everyone's stash. I think this will be a go to polish for me. I like how dark it is, but reflective, glittery, but subtle. It is yumalicious! (My girls and I have been reading Pinkalicious a lot lately...so I have been catching myself adding alicious to pretty much everything...lol)

Under Your Spell

Good evening! Sorry for the few days absence. We started my youngest daughter on seizure medication, and I've had to keep a close eye on her. Which meant, no nail polish for me. At least not while they were awake. But things seem to be doing great. I feel like my Zoey is different. Which is a good thing!! :)

So I have some fun colors to share with you! First:

Here is my swatch of Wet n Wild's Haze of Love.

And here is a swatch of Wet n Wild's Under Your Spell.

So here is my manicure:

I used:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
2 coats Wet n Wild Haze of Love
1 coat Wet n Wild Under Your Spell
1 coat Seche Vite
Then I stamped on the pattern with Konad m57 using my awesome Color Club Gingerbread Man.
I topped it all off with another coat of Seche Vite.

Under Your Spell by itself is actually really really sheer, and appears to have a black base. But I thought it would look really nice with the brownish red of Haze of Love. And I was right. I really like the combo. As usual, I do not like the ManiCurve brush of Under Your Spell. But I can get around these brushes, now that I'm getting used to them. I really enjoyed the application of Haze of Love. It is such a creme-alicious color, and formula.

After painting on my two Wet n Wild polishes, I left it like that for a day. Then I decided I needed to add SOMETHING to it. So I added the stamping. I think it was a good choice. I had a hard time deciding if I should do gold, black, bronze. Deciding on gold was a good move. As always, I love Gingerbread Man. It is by far the best clearance find I have found to date.

I am excited to get back to blogging again, now that I don't have to watch Zoey's every move. I am SO happy to be able to paint my nails, and have time to photograph them and post post post!!! I am hoping to get better at tape manicures. I've been using scotch tape, and I've also tried masking tape. But neither work well for me.

Any advice? Tips? Tricks? I really want to do a nicely done stripped manicure...but mine always seem to look so sloppy!!!

What do you all think of the color combo?? Love it or hate it?

Gradient Stripes

Good morning! I have a fun manicure to share with you all!!! I entered into a contest on Instagram, which required stripes. I plan on entering as many times as possible, while improving my striping skills. So expect several striped manicures. Lol.

So here's what I did:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Orly's Bonder base coat
I sponged on:
Wet n Wild Through the Grapevine
Wet n Wild On a Trip
L'oreal Jet Set to Paris

Then with tape, I taped off my mani and added Pure Ice Black Rage. And topped it all off with Orly's No Chip top coat

I'm still not very good at the whole taping things off, and painting over them. My tape never ends up even, and I had a huge issue with paint coming off when I removed the tape. I just then took a paint brush and fixed the problem spots.

The colors sponged on great though! It was cake! And of course, my Black Rage glided on like jelly.

My ring finger did get a little messed up, but I really don't think it was that bad. It could have been worse, that's for sure!!

Today is a huge day. Obama announcing he supports gay marriage and gay rights. I cannot explain how happy I am to hear this. I hope states will start allowing same sex marriages. I know, being in Oklahoma, that being gay is looked down upon...but I support same sex marriages! If you are in love, it shouldn't matter the sex!

Club Havana

GOOOOOOOOD afternoon!!!! My awesome neighbor/awesome friend gave me a set of Wet n Wild polishes last night at our spaghetti dinner. I am sooo excited to share one of these polishes with you! (Thanks Jessi!! I love them all SO much!! <3)

In the Sassy set, the polishes included are:
Club Havana
Haze of Love
Red Tape
Hush Hush
Tropicalia

These all appear to be creme polishes, but sometimes polishes can surprise you, so I won't know until I swatch them all!

Today I have Club Havana to share with you.

Here it is in its orange glory without flash. It is a creamy orange sorbet creme polish that glides on like butter, and looks good enough to eat. Oranges usually do not look good on my nails, but this one looks amazing. It makes me look so much more tan than I am, which is my goal when it comes to polish. Lol.

Flash flash flash! Makes it look a tad bit brighter than it actually is. But isn't the color GORGEOUS??!! The brush was a bit of a pain, but not as bad as their crazy salon flat brush crappity crap. It was so easy to apply. It was a bit streaky, but I could see this polish being completely streak free in three thin coats.

Here's what I did:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Orly's Bonder base coat
2 coats Wet n Wild Club Havana
No top coat.

I only did 2 coats because I knew I would be layering other polishes on top. Wanna see what I layered??

BAM!

Here I added 1 thin coat of my Spectraflair top coat. (I purchased Spectraflair powder HERE! And added it to some top coat I never use.)
Then I added 1 coat of Essie's Shine of the Times and 1 coat of Orly's No Chip top coat.

Look at that rainbow goodness!!! <3

I love that Shine of the Times is the main star in the shade, but once that sun hits my nails, the holo goes rainbow crazy! I am in love with this combo!!

Jelly Sandwich

Good evening! Excuse my being missing for a day or so. I received some crazy news about my family blood line and medical history, and it has been a little unsettling.

I have been seeing Jelly Sandwiches every where! I have never tried one, so I thought, why not? I don't have many jellies, or at least I don't think I have many...so I wasn't sure which polishes to use. I decided to go with hot pinks and multicolored glitter. Here's how it turned out.

Not too shabby for my first Sandwich. I do feel a little bit like a 12 year old again, with the multicolored glitter. But I actually really like it.

I used:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Orly's base coat
1 coat Sally Girl crazy hot pink that doesn't have a name
1 coat Nicole Rainbow in the S-Kylie
1 coat Wet n Wild How I Met Your Magenta
1 coat Orly's No Chip top coat

These photos are both done inside with the flash. I really do like how the glitter looks as if it is just suspended in the polish. I also like how it dulls down the crazy colors in the glitter polish. I just feel like it is a little too young for my almost 26 year old hands.

The Sally Girl application was great. It is sheer, so it would take a few coats to become opaque. I used this color as the base of this manicure. It is CRAZY bright! Which I LOOOOVE.
The Rainbow in the S-Kylie was a bit hard to apply. I felt like I couldn't control the glitter. I have been having problems with glitter recently. Maybe I need to take a day and just play with glitter to get it to apply in a decent manner.

I really am enjoying the look of the jelly sandwich. I am going to play with my polish tonight and create lots and lots of jelly sandwiches! Lol. I can't wait!

Sea Creature

Good morning!! I have a gorgeous polish to share with you all!! Two polishes, really! :)

First:
Wet n Wild's Teal of Fortune! This is a gorgeous teal jelly with lots and lots of glitter!

This is:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Orly's base coat
2 coats Teal of Fortune
no top coat.

Here it is with flash! I really like this color. The brush is a little thick, but the color is worth fighting with the clean up! Speaking of clean up, it was a little tough. I feel like blues and teals like this always stain my skin. So I spent a lot of time doing clean up, because of that pesky brush. The formula is pretty thin, but the tiny glitter is not sparse. It is FULL of glitter.
I really love this color. I like darker teals. This polish by itself probably needs to have 3 coats to have full coverage, but I knew I would be layering with it, so I only did two.

Now for the star of the show:
The Hungry Asian's Sea Creature. This polish has been on my wish list for a long time. Even before I started this blog. I recently got it via mail for $4.50. Even though I knew I would love this polish, I went ahead and got the smaller bottle, due to financial lacking. BOO.
This polish is a jelly polish. Because I layered it, I'm not sure if it has an actual tint. I felt like it made Teal of Fortune just a tad darker. But it is FILLED with green, black, blue, and pinkish/purple glitter. The application was amazing. The formula is divine. And the way it feels on my nails is sooo smooth. Especially for a glitter!
Clean up was cake, mainly because the brush in this little bottle is awesome. I never have a big issue. I have a few stray glitters, but that is to be expected.
I literally can not stop staring at my nails. I am ALWAYS so impressed with The Hungry Asian's polishes. They're made SO beautifully!!!

Here's a sun shot. I took these in the evening yesterday, so they aren't the greatest sun shots. I'm sorry. I will be making a light box for myself again soon! I used to have one for my jewelry photos, but my little ones destroyed it.

Doesn't that picture make you want to go out and buy all of her polishes?? YUM! My next purchase from her will be U Jelly Red and Twenty Ten. I just need to start making money from buying polishes. Maybe I should be a secret polish buyer, or have a company pay me to try their polishes. Seriously. I accept polish as payment!

All in all, another wonderful manicure! I will probably wear this one for a few days, or until it chips. I can't bring myself to take off this gorgeous color/glitter/awesomeness!! I AM IN LOVE!!
