Lava Lamp Nails

Goooood morning!!

There has been a trend on Instagram that I knew I had to try. There isn't a definite name to them, but I like to call them Lava Lamp Nails.

I must admit, these were harder than I thought they'd be. But since I've done them once, I am positive I can improve my skills on them. In concept, they seem very easy.

So here's what I did.

1 coat Nail Magic
1 coat Gelous
2 coats NYC French White Tip
I painted half of my nail with Pure Ice Black Rage
Then I took a medium sized dotting tool, and placed the dots along side the diagonal line I created. Then placed the opposite color  dots on each side of the line.
I topped it all off with Seche Vite.

These nails really look so cool on. I feel like they're melting into each other. It's beautiful. I, being my worst critic, see some flaws, but practice makes perfect, so I will for sure be doing these again. I'm glad I did the mixture of black and white for my first time with these. I think it really shows the dramatic dripping to the work. I love it.

Birthday Dots

Hello all!!! Yesterday (Aug 6th) was my 26th birthday! Naturally I had to have some pretty spiffy nails when I went to enroll my eldest into Pre-K. (That is literally all I did for my birthday...getting old stinks.)

Summer is almost over, and I really wanted to take advantage of my bright colors before they look weird in the colder months.

Here's what I did:
1 coat Nail Magic
1 coat Growth Spurt
1 coat Gelous
2 coats Julep Alicia
And I used a small dotter to make my polka dots with Hard Candy Frenzy, Wet N Wild I Need a Refresh-mint, and Konad Special White.
 1 coat Seche Vite

I love love love this manicure. I formed a circular pattern off to the side of my nail, rather than in the middle of my nail. I think it made it look a bit more abstract. I love the color combination, and  Julep Alicia will always be one of my favorite polishes. I adore it.

Application was beautiful, and drying time wasn't that bad. It did take me like an hour to do each and every nail...but let me just say: I was 100% worth it!

As you can see, my nails are crazy short. I had them growing so nicely, then they all broke. It really stinks to have short nails, but I have faith that they will be coming back stronger and hopefully will stay longer. One of my Instagram friends suggested Nail Magic...so we shall see how well it works. This is week one for me. It says it takes up to 8 weeks for stronger nails to come in...so I am testing them!

I have been trying to get good use out of my dotting tools lately. I forget how much I really love polka dots. I must remember this!!

What do you all think of this manicure? Is it too busy? What color scheme would you do?

Also, I would love to hear from you guys about Nail Magic. Have any of you used it before? Did it work for you? I would really like some input on this base coat!!

Party Rockin

Good morning all!!!

Today I have a gorgeous manicure to share with you all! I used an unnamed Hot Topic polish and Lush Lacquer's Party Rockin. I love love love the colors in Lush Lacquer's glitter polish!

Here's what I did:
1 coat Seche Retain
1 coat Gelous
2 coats Hot Topic polish
1 coat Party Rockin
1 coat Seche Vite

The Hot Topic polish was a bit of a pain to work with. The consistency is great, but while applying it, it creates bald spots on itself. So I sort of had to goop it on. Other than that, I really do like this polish. It is a nice dark purple with lots of shimmer that changes from purple to blue. It really is gorgeous. I'm in love with the bottle too. I love me some skulls.

Lush Lacquer is one of my favorite indie polish companies. I love all their polish, and I have never had a single problem with them! The shipping to get to you does take a little while, but trust me, it is WORTH the wait!!! They retail at $8.75 a 15ml bottle. Which is very reasonable, considering the quality you are getting! The polish always glides on like butter. I never have to fish for any glitters, nor do I ever have clumping problems with the glitter. I never have to adjust the glitter on the nail! All I do is paint and go. Seriously.

Party Rockin is a gorgeous polish that is LOADED with glitter. There are smaller glitters, medium sized hex glitters, and bar glitters. The color combination is to die for. It is bright and summery. I decided to pair it with purple to really bring out the blues, oranges, and yellow/golds. I know this polish would look amazing on blacks, pinks, and greens! I can't wait to try this glitter with other colors! I also can't wait to try a jelly sandwich!

How I Met Your Magenta & The Wonder Yellows

Good evening all! I have the last two swatches to the Wet n Wild Summer Getaway collection!

We've got The Wonder Yellows on the left and How I Met Your Magenta on the right.

These are some BRIGHT colors! Who doesn't LOVE bright summery colors??? I know I love them, mainly because they tend to make my skin look a lot more tan than it actually is!

First, The Wonder Yellows:
This is a frosty shimmery yellow. Very very sheer. I have two coats shown above, and you can still see visible free edge. I think a third coat would opaque this polish up! It applied beautifully! And the yellow shimmer is such a good color. It isn't as bright as the pink, so I wouldn't call it neon, but it is a sunshine yellow that will brighten up any day! :)

Next, How I Met Your Magenta:
This is a jelly HOT pink. It is really really bright. It has shimmer, but it isn't as shimmery as the yellow. It applied ok. It felt a bit goopy for me. Again, another sheer polish. This is two coats, above, and you can see the free edge. And again, I think a third coat would have done the trick. I'm not sure what type of finish this has. It isn't matte, but it isn't super glossy. Maybe satin? It was odd. But a top coat would shine this baby up just fine!

Here's what I did for both colors:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Orly's base coat
2 coats of polish
No top coat.

All in all, I do like this polish line. I can see myself wearing Buffy the Vampire Slayer, How I Met Your Magenta, 9.0.2.1.Orange, and MAYYYYYBE The Wonder Yellows again. I will probably use Sage in the City as an accent color in some designs, and I really don't know if I will ever wear Fuchsiarama again. The formula was just too weird for me.

I think this collection was worth the $3.99 I spent on it. But I don't think I would have paid more.

What do you all think about these final colors? Would you wear them? I kinda like them together!

FuchsiaRama

Good afternoon! I have an interesting polish to share with you all.

As you know from my previous post, I am swatching Wet n Wild's Summer Getaway collection.

Here is FuchsiaRama:

 Ok, so I do not like this polish at all. I'm not sure if they were trying to go for a matte finish or not. It dries really weird. And it doesn't dry all that fast, once you have a few coats of it on. This is:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Orly's base coat
3 coats FuchsiaRama
And no top coat.

I had some issues with my cotton getting all over my fingers, which is why my ring and pinky look messed up.

But I didn't know how to react to this polish. The application was ok. A little thin in the formula department. But as it started drying, it started this matte thing. Which I suppose isn't a bad thing...it just wasn't what I was expecting. This photo makes the color look a lot more pink than it actually is. It is MUCH more purple in real person.

I also had a hard time keeping the polish from going bald when applying. The brush was what made it semi ok to do. It is a thicker brush.

I honestly don't know about this. It took a while to become opaque, hence the three coats. And even then, I don't feel like it has great coverage. It is streaky and bald in places. I think if I wear this polish again, I will start with a purple base coat, then apply only one or two coats of this stuff...and probably add a glossy top coat. I just am not crazy with their attempt at matte.

Sage in the City

Hello nail bloggers/readers!! I hope you all are having a fantastic day!!

Yesterday I picked up a little something at my local Walgreens. Wet n Wild came out with their Summer Getaway line, put the polishes in tiny 5mL bottles, and packaged them all together for $3.99. Great price for me! I also really enjoy smaller bottles. That way if I hate the color, I don't feel bad for spending more on one polish.

 They all have super clever names...or at least I'm sure Wet n Wild thought they were clever. I only have an issue with one of the names.

In this kit you get:
Buffy the Violet Slayer: This is a gorgeous purple color.
I haven't tried all of these...well, honestly, I've only tried one, but I'm planning on swatching all of these through out the week. This is a darker purple color, that appears to have lots of shimmer.

9.0.2.1.Orange: Looks like an orange jelly with lots and lots of orange glitter. I'm excited to try this one!

FuchsiaRama: This one looks more purple to me in the bottle. It looks like a creme polish...but who knows, it might lighten up to a dark fuchsia. (I love this name because I am a huge Futurama fan. lol)

How I Met Your Magenta: This honestly does not look magenta to me. It is hot pink. It is a cute pink, with lots of shimmer. I can't wait to swatch this one for ya.

The Wonder Yellows: This one looks to be a yellow frost with lots of shimmer. I'm excited about this one too..but I have a feeling I will need a more opaque polish to go under it.

And finally, the color that I have swatched for you today:

Sage in the City.

First of all: I do not wear green. I don't think it looks good on my fingers or with my skin. I have an olive skin tone...so I feel like it draws out the green in my skin color.

Second: Nice try Wet n Wild. Trying to be so clever made you look like you're colorblind. THIS IS NOT SAGE. This is almost lime green! We'll call it a dark lime green. I do like this color, but the name really bothers me. Whoever made this color and was like "Hey guys, let's call this SAGE IN THE CITY! Get it? A spin off of SEX IN THE CITY! GENIUS!" is an idiot. They could have called it Glime...like GLEE with lime, or Lime and Order. Or what about The LIME word. Sigh.

Anyway, on to the polish.

I found this polish to be awfully thick. And it left visible brush strokes. The good part was it only took two coats to become completely opaque. I really really really DO like this color! A lot! I wish it looked good on me, cause I would wear it all the time!!

All of these photos were taken with my flash...as it is night time. (I'm going to be super busy this weekend, so I am swatching and writing my posts and post dating them for the actual day I want it posted. Pretty genius Blogger. Kudos to you for making this function for us crazy busy moms.)

I also think their Fastdry technology isn't really that fast. They advertise that one coat will dry in 60 seconds. But with my one coat of Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat, two coats of Sage in the City, and one coat of Seche Vite, I don't feel like it dried all that fast. After a few minutes, it felt dry, but was dentable. But then again, it was a pretty thick polish. Maybe I got a bad batch.

What do you all think of this color? Do you think I should brave green, and wear it more often? Is it just my eyes that see how terrible it looks on me??

Jacket Buttons

Good evening fellow nail bloggers! I have a fantastic manicure for you!

I asked my daughter, Seyhan, what she thought my nails looked like, and she said jacket buttons. :) I think she's right.

I really really really like this manicure! Here's what I did:
1 coat Sally Henson's Double Duty base coat
1 thick coat Pure Ice Black Rage
I used Color Club Gingerbread Man for the dots with my dotting tool
1 coat Essie Matte About You

I love love love my Pure Ice Black Rage. If you use enough the first time, you don't need to do a second coat! The application is always a breeze, the brush is perfect, and the formula is amazing. I use Black Rage more often than any other polish in my stash of 70.

I only have flash photos to share with you all. I didn't get a chance to take photos this afternoon. My daughter, Zoey, has a therapist who comes to our house to work with her. And that took up a lot of our time today.

I am really happy to report how well the Gingerbread Man polish did with Matte About You. I was afraid it wouldn't look good, since it is more of a foil type polish. It took on the matte, but stayed glittery...which is the only way I can explain it. I think I will have a hard time taking this polish off.

I really wanted something more edgy, but to stay with the dots, since my dotting tools are being severely neglected.

I am a huge fan of black and gold combos. Something about the two together makes me wanna dance. Lol.

I also have yet to run into any problems I've read about online about Matte About You. I read the reviews on Amazon.com before purchasing it, and some people say that the matte doesn't last long, and ends up shiny in a few days...I haven't had that problem. Others said it chipped within hours...Again, no problems here. I also have two kids, and I'm currently the only parent...and mine holds up pretty well. I never expect a manicure to stay perfect more than two days. I expect tip wear and chips. I'm really rough on my hands. Another reviewer said that it started peeling from the middle?? Whaaat? Maybe they got a bad batch, cause I've never ever ever seen it do that!!! Maybe I'm not that picky about my nails...so if it does end up shinier...I don't notice it at all.

I hope I have given you a good reason to go out and buy a matte top coat! I know I don't regret my purchase! <3

Folly

Good morning!! Sorry that I have been MIA. My husband left for deployment on Friday. So it has been a little rough around my house. My eldest has been acting out negatively from this deployment...so it has been pretty hard on momma!

I do have a pretty cute manicure for you all today. This manicure is a few days old, so I do have tip wear and a chip and broken corner on my index finger, all thanks to peeling potatoes.

Here's what I did:
2 coats of Sinful Colors Folly
Then I took every orange/coral/salmon/light pink/yellow I owned and used my dotter tools to add the dots.
Then I did a thick coat of Seche Vite.

I wanted the dots to be flat..and not look like paint over paint. I think I achieved that with the thick coat of Seche Vite.

I really like Folly. It could have gone on in one coat...which is a win in my book!!

I have never done polka dots before. I wanted them to be different sizes...and I think I did a pretty good job for my first polka dot job. :)

What do you all think? Do you like the color combo? The dots? Folly??

I don't give a Rotterdam!

I purchased a few new polishes recently. Two of them were: OPI's I don't give a Rotterdam! (which now I can cross off my wishlist!) and Layla Mercury Twilight. I have been searching for a hologram effect polish for a while now...and $15.50 later, I found one. Sigh.

On to the photos.

Here is OPI's I don't give a Rotterdam! Sorry for the blurry photos...if you see that white skin up on the left upper corner...that's my daughter Seyhan. She was trying to get into all of the photos. Sigh. LOL.

I really like this polish, as I knew I would. It is a light blue with sprinkles, as Seyhan calls them. :)

I used:
1 coat Sally Hansen's Double Duty base coat
1 coat Orly's base coat
2 coats OPI I don't give a Rotterdam!
(I should have used three, to patch up bald spots, but I knew I was painting over it...so I didn't)
1 coat of Seche Vite.

 I really like how this isn't BLUE. It is subtle..and kind of greyish...I love love love it.

Then I decided to try out my Layla Mercury Twilight.

I used:
1 coat Layla Mercury Twilight
1 coat Seche Vite

Ok. I really like this polish...but I do not like it as a one coater. In the house, I can see brush strokes. I wanted this hologram to be a little more sheer to go over other polishes....but that is not the case. You can barely see my beautiful Rotterdam blue.

Out in the sun, it is gorgeous. You can't see brush strokes. No bald spots. Just rainbow goodness.

I think this polish will be amazing by itself. And it better be! For freaking $15.50. SHEESH.

I think this was a great manicure....given my lack of knowledge on these polishes. Next time I will use Mercury Twilight by itself, and do three coats instead of two of I don't give a Rotterdam.

Newsprint

Hello, and welcome all new followers! I cannot express how happy I am to have you with me during this journey of nail polish. <3

I have a pretty cool manicure in store for you today. This manicure is a few days old, so please excuse the tip wear.

I found this beautiful polish on Etsy. Here is the shop link HERE. KBShimmer is who made this polish. They named it Newsprint. When I saw it online, I had to have it. It is so unique.

It is a grey polish with black, white, and red glitter. I really really love this polish. But  there are a few things that I do not like about it. So I will list pros and cons:

Pros:

• Unique
• Cute
• Lasts a while with no chipping
• Glitter glitter glitter!
• It only took two coats to become opaque.

Cons:

• This polish is very thick. I had a hard time getting it on. 
•  The glitter is very unruly. I had such a tough time getting it on my nails and staying put.
• It took a while to dry.
• It is not smooth after application.

 Here is a flash shot.

This polish really is cool. I do wish the seller had put some stainless steel balls into the bottle to help mix the polish and glitter. I will be purchasing some soon to add to it. There is A LOT of polish in this bottle! The bottle is literally full. So it will last me a long long long time. I will for sure be wearing this polish again...but not until I can add some steel balls, and maybe getting another polish bottle to split this polish up and adding a little bit of thinner.

All in all, I really do like this polish once it is on my nails. I think it looks great. I love love love the glitter! And I love the color combo. Currently, the seller doesn't have any polish in her Etsy shop, but I will be keeping an eye out for more interesting combos! :)

Something I like.

Ok, after the last post, I HAD to do a manicure that I would like, and immediately post it!!

So here we go:

About a billion years ago, I bought this China Glaze Shocking Pink. It is still one of my favorites in my collection. It is literally shocking. It is the brightest color I own. It is a neon pink. I love love love love it. Like a lot.

This shot was done with the flash. It is so bright, it hurts your eyes.

Here is my application process:
One coat of Sally Hansen strengthening base coat.
One coat of Orly's base coat.
Two coats of China Glaze Shocking Pink.
I used Konad's special black polish. With Bundle Monster Plate BM-203(I caved and bought it. I'm glad I did, this black polish shows up SO much better than any other polish I've used for stamping.)
A coat of Seche Vite.

Have I already mentioned how much I love this color?

I LOVE  this pattern too! So mod! ;)

The only problem I had with this manicure is: The Konad Special Polish smeared a little when I applied my top coat. Nothing too crazy, but just a little warning to you Konad stampers out there. I think using a thick coat of polish helps the special polish not smear so much. And a delicate hand.

You can kind of see the smear on my middle finger. No biggie though. I will say the clean up with this Konad Polish is a pain. It was tough to get the black off my cuticles and skin. I still have a little bit of black residue on my right hand. But I'm sure that'll come off with washing my hands and such.

Also, I cannot express my love for my Bundle Monster plates enough. I still have yet to find a stamp that didn't work. I'm sure there is one out there...but I haven't found it. I think they are such a great deal!!

Milani Jewel FX

Hello all! I have an interesting review for all of you.

I recently purchased Milani's Jewel FX in Hot Pink. My daughter, Seyhan, reeeeeally wanted this polish, so I gave in and spent the $4.99 on it at Walgreens. When you look at the bottle, you think "Oh my gosh, this is going to be GORGEOUS!"

And it IS gorgeous. But let me tell you a little bit about why I HATE this polish.

Here is my application process:
A coat of Sally Hansen Strengthening polish.
A coat of Orly's Base Coat.
One coat of Pure Ice Black Rage.
FOUR, let me repeat, FOUR coats of Milani's Jewel FX, Hot Pink.
A coat of Seche Vite.
And to see what it looked like, a coat of Essie's Matte About You.

Ok. I hate this polish. And maybe if I knew how to properly apply it, I would like it. But it was a nightmare. I wanted LOTS of glitter on top of my black. Which I got....after fighting with the glitter through all four coats. It was goopy, yet runny, and every time I did a coat, hardly any glitter would end up on my nail until this giant glob of polish dripped onto my nail. Which then I had to fight with it just to even out. ( I left my ring finger un-matted so you guys could see the shimmer...)

I absolutely love the glitter. I really do. It is VERY pretty. But I will never ever ever plan on using this polish as the main star. I will layer over it, or only use it when I want a few hex glitters.

I seriously feel like I have a layer of cement on my nails. It is SO thick. I cannot wait to take this stuff off.

I am so disappointed. For $5.00, I would expect to get a nice quality polish. I hear that Milani's smaller glitter polishes are amazing...but their chunky glitter polish is a fail in my book. Maybe I will pick up a smaller glitter polish next time I'm at Walgreens. But if it is anything like this, I will be returning it. The only thing keeping me from taking this back to the store, is how much my daughter loves it. I doubt you'll see this on my nails for a while.

Now I'm off to scrub this stuff off, and do another manicure that doesn't require fifty billion coats!!!

Fancy Dots

Hello readers! I've got a fantastic manicure for you! Seriously, I am SO in love with this one!!

Here's what I did:
I used Sally Hensen's strengthening base coat, Orly's base coat, two coats of Essie's Sand Tropez.
Then with my Bundle Monster plate: BM-212 (You can buy this awesome bundle HERE), I added the print with Essie's Merino Cool. After that was dry, I decided to fancy it up a bit, and used my new dotters (TOTALLY worth the $4.50 I spent on Amazon: you can buy them HERE. And let me tell you how amazing their customer service is! I accidentally ordered two packages of these bad boys, and one dotter was missing! So they're having it sent out to me asap! Which then, I will give to a good friend of mine.) and added some gold dots with my Pure Ice Jaguar. I then topped it all off with a coat of Seche Vite.

I did this manicure yesterday, so sorry for any tip wear. After several doctor appointments today, my hands are screaming at me! "Don't use your nails to open that box of matzah bread!" "I can't believe you are scraping stickers off things without a tool!" "YOUR NAILS ARE NOT TOOLS!" (They actually said these things to me.)

I am just so impressed with how well this came out! I wanted a manicure that wasn't too flashy or bright....we are having family photos taken tomorrow...and I don't want to look back and say "OH MY GOSH Christina! Why did you wear that BRIGHT green polish with that outfit!!!" This way, I am safe!

All in all, a great manicure!! I highly suggest the Bundle Monster plates for your Konad stamper, or other brand of stamper! Some reviews have said that some of the stamps don't work very well...but I have not found a pattern that didn't work well! But I still have a ton of other plates to go through, so who knows. For the price, I can't complain! :D

Dreamy

Hello all! :D I did a fabulous manicure today! I am so in love with it! I have done a similar manicure to this before, but I just LOVE this color, I had to do it again.

Here is what I used as the base. Three coats of the Sally Girl polish. And a coat of Pure Ice Dreamy. What I did differently was I added a coat of Essie's Shine of the Times. Of course, as usual, I used my Orly base coat and my Seche Vite top coat. If you haven't seen this Essie polish, prepare to be amazed!

I honestly feel like I have fire on my nails. It is a gorgeous polish, with holo flakes. Yummy. I have seen this polish on top of black...and boy I can't wait to try that! It is gorgeous! But since it is spring time, and we are having a birthday party for my eldest today, I wanted something brighter.

These photos make the base polish look more orange than it actually is...but honestly, I'm fine with that! I'm loving this!!!

The fact that Essie named a polish a spin off a Prince song makes me love it even more. I am a HUGE Prince fan...thanks to my momma! I grew up listening to his music, and I currently own his entire collection. Sign O the Times is still one of my favorite songs. So, Essie, thank you for naming this polish Shine of the Times. It brings a huge smile to my face!

Yummy polish!! I'm thinking the Essie polish is what makes this base polish look more orange on my fingers. Fire fire fire!!! <3

I had been oooohing and aaaaahing at the holo flakes in this Essie polish for a while now. But I just could not bring myself to purchase it, until yesterday. I KNEW I needed it, even though my hubs will tell me that I already own plenty of glitter top coats. "BUUUUUT HONEEEEY! This one is diiiiiifferent!!!!"

I hope you all enjoy this bright and summery manicure! I do hope I have inspired some of you to go out and buy this awesome glitter top coat from Essie! I got it for $8.00 at Walgreens!
